Global Media And Information Literacy Dialogue 2024 (GMILD 2024)

In a remarkable display of collective responsibility, the Sarawak State Library, honoured with the 2022 UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy, joined hands with the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) to host the Global Media and Information Literacy Dialogue 2024 (GMILD 2024). Scheduled for 24 October 2024, this hybrid event celebrated the spirit of UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2024.

The hybrid dialogue has intensely explored the transformative impact of emerging technologies, particularly Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the evolving role of digital content creators. These important discussions shaped public-interest information and demonstrated the dynamic landscape of media and information literacy.

Furthermore, the dialogue has addressed both the opportunities and risks posed by these advancements, emphasising the crucial role of media and information literacy in confidently navigating the new digital frontiers.

H.E. Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak officiated the programme. Also present were Datuk Dr. Abang Haji Abdul Rauf Abang Haji Zen, Chairman of the Board of Management of Sarawak State Library, Tuan Haji Japri Bujang Masli, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak State Library, while Mdm. Fadzilah Fadzil, Secretary-General of MNCU and Ms. Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa, Director and Representative, UNESCO Multisectoral Office Jakarta, graced the event via a digital platform.

The programme has gathered 215 experts and participants from 8 countries.
