
On 26 April 2025, the 6th International Best Practice Sharing Session (IBPSS 6.0) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was successfully held online, drawing close to 4,000 participants from around the world. Organised by the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) in collaboration with the Green Educators’ Network (GREW) and the school SMKA (P) Almashoor, the event united over 60 students from 19 schools across Malaysia, Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, and India in a shared mission to advance Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education.
Officiated by Mr. Ahmadul Mokhtar bin Mohd Hayani, Executive Secretary of MNCU, the session highlighted the vital role of students as agents of change. Notable guest speakers included Professor Dr. Hiroki Fujii of Okayama University, Japan, who shared best practices on sustainable consumption and production in schools, and Ms. Sugitha Kanniaseelan of WWF-Malaysia, who discussed environmental education and youth engagement in community sustainability.
Participants also presented their own sustainability initiatives, with top-performing schools recognised under the Best Presenters Award and the Sustainable Spark Award. Among the winners were Sekolah Seri Puteri (Best Presenters – Secondary), Sekolah Kebangsaan Kongsi (Best Presenters – Primary), and Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar Shah (Sustainable Spark – Secondary).
IBPSS 6.0 underscored the importance of global collaboration in nurturing ethical, informed, and proactive youth. By fostering cross-border dialogue and showcasing innovative student-led initiatives, the event reinforced education’s pivotal role in building a more sustainable and resilient future.
