Man and The Biosphere Programme
The Man and The Biosphere Programme (MAB) is an intergovernmental scientific initiative launched by UNESCO in 1971.
Its mission is to establish a scientific basis for improving the relationship between people and their environments. Through a global network of sites known as biosphere reserves, the MAB Programme promotes sustainable development by balancing biodiversity conservation, economic development, and cultural preservation.

Tasik Chini Biosphere Reserve, Pahang (2009)
Tasik Chini is located in Pahang, it covers an area of around 69.23 km² and has been declared Malaysia’s first biosphere reserve in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) since May 2009. There are communities of indigenous people, the Jakun tribe living around the lake areas.

Crocker Range Biosphere Reserve, Sabah (2014)
The Crocker Range, located in Sabah, has been part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) since June 2014. Covering approximately 3,505.84 km² of terrestrial ecosystems and natural landscapes near Mount Kinabalu, it is the largest biosphere reserve in Sabah.

Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve, Pulau Penang (2019)
Penang Hill located in the northern half of Penang Island, situated off the coast to the west of Main Island, with an area of around 124.81 km², encompasses three significant ecosystems: terrestrial, marine, and coastal.
