The Misa Melayu MSS 6 is a Malay historiography that literarily narrates the history of the Perak Sultanate, particularly during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Dzulkarnain Shah (1750-1765). The manuscript narrates in the form of prose and poetry, containing depictions of several historical events connected to the Perak society in the 18th century which significantly impacted the art, culture as well as providing historical insights in the tradition of Malay civilization. Raja Chulan, a Perakian aristocratic court poet, has written this work of literature based on his eyewitness assessment and views concerning Perak’s genealogies, court ceremonials, succession of the throne, Malay customs, and diplomatic relations and trade with the Dutch (Vereenigde Oost-lndische Compagniei -V.O.C). This manuscript is a major historical reference that details the Perakian society in the 18th century.
