Community Workshop

On 19-21st May, Faculty of Civil Engineering & Earth Resources (FKASA) from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and UNESCO-IHP with the collaboration of Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM) & other related agencies had organized “Kem Pemimpin Muda Prihatin Air & Bengkel Komuniti: Air & Kehidupan”  (Young Leaders Water Awareness Camp & Community Workshop: Water & Life) and Reaching the Grassroots programme. The three days 2017 National Level Workshop for Eastern Region took place in Biodiversity Institute, Lanchang, Pahang.

A total of 41 students from six schools around Kuantan attended the camp whilst the community workshop was dedicated to Orang Asli community and the local youth. Meanwhile Reaching the Grassroots held at SMK Kuala Krau, Temerloh, Pahang managed to attract around 200 participants including 40 Orang Asli students.

These programme aimed to increase awareness on the importance of good water management in preserving water sources to ensure its sustainability.  The theme “Memasyarakatkan Teknologi Kelestarian Air dan Kehidupan”  (Inculcating the Usage of Sustainable Technology for Water and Life Amongst the Community) was chosen for this particular camp.

Also at the event was Malaysian NATCOM Secretary General, Mr. Mohd Khairul Adib, FKASA Dean, Dr. Mohamad Idris Ali and UNESCO-IHP Education, Training and Public Information Committee President, Associate Professor Dr. Nabsiah Abd Wahid.

13 selected modules from various agencies were used during this programme which includes water source management, water cycle process, water treatment, alternative water source, natural environment biodiversity and many more. The students also were brought to National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah, Pahang to increase public awareness associated to the biodiversity, ecosystem and conservation issues of inhabitants in Malaysia on second day of the camp.

In collaboration with SMK Kuala Krau, Temerloh, Malaysian NATCOM successfully carried out “Reaching the Grassroots” programme on 21st May 2017. With overwhelming support from SMK Kuala Krau Principal and participation of their students, this program was expected to cultivate awareness of clean water and its value to human beings.

Also seen at the event were Malaysian NATCOM Secretary General, Mr. Mohd Khairul Adib Abd. Rahman, NATCOM Sciences & Social Sciences Program Officer Ms. Roslinda Mat Musa, Malaysian UNESCO-IHP representative Mr. Nasaruddin and other secretariat from various agencies.

During the three hours program, Mr. Khairul Adib shared not only the importance of water usage awareness, but also his experience on the water issue in other countries. The program also was filled with many activities based on the Water and its impacts on Human Being as well as the sustainable planning of a development in association with water supply and its strategic positioning lead by Mr. Nik Mohd.
