Localizing SDGs with a Gender Focus: Capacity Building Program on Monitoring and Evaluation of SDGs (MEG-SDG)

Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) with the support of the Malaysian National Commissions for UNESCO (MNCU) had organized a Capacity Building Program on Monitoring and Evaluation of SDGs (MEG-SDG) which is linked to the All Political Parties Group Malaysia (APPGM) Program. The implementation of APPGM Program was divided into four phases which are: Mapping; Project Design; Solution Implementation and Monitoring; and Impact Assessment.

The development of the Training Module for SDG with a gender focus was one of the main output of the project. By paying a specific attended on the four elements of M&E (Design, Planning, Implementation and Impact), a gender dimension allows the evaluators to solicit information especially those pertaining to gender consideration in each element of the Solutions Projects. This indirectly increases the gender awareness level through project implementation.

Apart from that, the capacity building training also produced a pool of experience valuators for public and private universities as well as ministries. The pool of trainers will be the core group whom will assist in the impact assessment schedule in August 2021 for 34 Solutions Projects from 10 constituencies. This project is a pioneering effort to mainstream gender into the evaluation of SDGs programmes at the national level.
